The Wildlife Pond

This project began with a simple dream: a pond where wildlife could thrive and where grandchildren could explore, play, and build memories. The chosen spot, however, sat on the side of a steep hill, which meant creating a flat, stable space for water would require more than just digging. We built a substantial berm to shape the land into a natural-looking pond terrace that stands above the existing slope.

Because the homeowners love collecting plants, we incorporated a generous gravel bog filter that allows them to grow bog-loving species while naturally cleaning the water. No chemicals. No complicated equipment. The system keeps maintenance low while keeping the ecosystem healthy.

Today, the pond is alive with goldfish, frogs, bees, and the kind of quiet magic that draws kids in. The grandparents and their grandkids love sitting at the edge, watching fish glide through the water and discovering new visitors each week. It has become a gathering place for both family and wildlife, a living and breathing corner of the yard that grows more beautiful with time.
